What it can do for your garage is prevent grease and oil from staining the surface or concrete, resist against slipping, is easy to wipe clean and adds a shine to enhances the look. Epoxy floor coatings are a cost-effective way to upgrade concrete without heavy-duty construction.

Applying an epoxy floor coating requires a few days for application and drying time. Below, we'll take you through the steps to make your garage an inviting and safe place. Remember, these are tips from the pros, so if you don’t have experience with epoxy coating, or if you’re not handy with home renovation projects, contact us for help.

1.       Before the epoxy can be applied, the floor needs to be at least 60 days old, not sealed and cleaned thoroughly. If there are any holes, those need to be patched as well.

2.       If the floor has been previously painted you will need a paint removal kit to scuff the paint. Sweep away paint chips and dust.

3.       For new or non-painted concrete, apply an etching solution with water. Wet the floor and begin in a 10x10 section by brushing the etching on with a bristle broom. Rinse until the water runs clear.

4.       Choose a day between 50 and 80 degrees to prevent peeling and bubbling. Mix together the paint and hardener. From then, you'll have two hours to paint the floor.

5.       Using a paintbrush, brush the epoxy and hardener mixture into corners and seams. With a 3 inch thick roller, paint the entire floor with remaining solution. Allow it to dry for 12 to 24 hours.

6.       If you want to add in colored flakes, distribute the flakes by sprinkling lightly and then build up by going over it again. Start in the back corner and work to the front. Allow it to dry for 12 to 24 hours.

7.       Pour the hardener into the top coat mix. If you want to apply anti-skid additives, now is the time. Apply the top coat in the same manner as in step 4.  Allow 24 hours to dry and 72 hours for a vehicle to drive on it.

Industrial Floors and Coating Maintenance Tips

Once the industrial floor coating process is complete, a business is left with a brilliant, gleaming new floor that is attractive to walk across and free of dirt and grime. It’s worth a little extra time and effort to keep your facility looking that way, although proper maintenance for industrial floor is easy to overlook. Pay attention to a few basic chores and you will maximize the service life of your company’s industrial floor coating.

There are certain maintenance tasks that should be completed every day, especially for heavy industrial facilities or floors that experience a lot of foot traffic. Floors should be swept every day and also mopped if abrasive particles or grease start to build up on the floor. Common household detergents will work well when mopping, but the detergents should be rinsed well from the floor as they can wear down the floor coating.

Regardless of dirt buildup, industrial floors should be mopped at least once per week. When using a detergent or cleanser to mop, make sure to use the proper concentration of liquid as outlined on the container. Using too much chemical can harm the floor or yourself.

In some industrial applications, such as where a no-skid surface is required, textured floor systems are used. These systems often need extra attention. A floor brush with stiff bristles should be used while mopping to free dirt trapped into the textured areas of the flooring.

Whether your business is in commercial retail or an industrial sector, you need the proper foundation to support your operations. What Is An Epoxy Floor Coating?

For heavily trafficked areas, the type of flooring that is walked on plays a large role in the proper functioning of the area. Especially in industrialization, a strong and durable floor is a must. If safety is your main concern, an epoxy floor coating is what you need.

An epoxy floor coating is a process of surface preparation, priming, coating and sealing. The end product is a high-end and reliable floor. Epoxy resin is most often used to upgrade flooring found in commercial and industrial properties. Epoxy floor coating will protect concrete from corrosion and provide a watertight surface.

Epoxy coating when mixed with a curing agent, rapidly hardens into a strong substance,  thus making it a strong economical option. Plus, epoxy floor coatings are skid-proof when wet, dust-free and resistant to acids. Epoxy floor coatings adhere most commonly to old or new concrete, wood, metal and tiles.

You can adjust the epoxy resin for thickness, hardness and elasticity based upon your flooring needs. For areas with a lot of movement, you'll want a higher grade than what might be needed for an area will little traffic.

Epoxy floor coating is an affordable and dependable solution that offers quality benefits to its users. The application can be provided by our specialists and if you have any questions about this type of flooring, be sure to give us a call.

It’s slippery season

Now is the time to take precautions with your floors.
Fall and winter months are typically the wettest times of the year, which is why your company might want to consider waterproof traffic systems.
Florock
Places like grocery stores, big warehouses and schools need to be aware of the danger winter months can have, especially in the northern states. It all boils down to one thing, water and snow.
Floor mats simply don’t do enough to collect snow and wetness from entering your epoxy or urethane surfaces. Think of a high school when hundreds of students are dragging in snow and rain into the hallways at one time. Better yet, what about black Friday when hundreds of people are RUNNING into that big warehouse store like Sam’s Club or BJ’s. That could be a disaster waiting to happen.
But a waterproof traffic system can help keep your floors slip-free and worry-free.
Our friends at Florock have created a full line of anti-slip and ultra-durable coatings we use to help ensure traction despite snow and slush being lugged around the store.
So if you’re thinking about another coat, rely on the epoxy floor overlay experts at Advanced Flooring, your commercial flooring contractors, to install and ensure peace of mind.
